I'm having the same problems that several others have reported here: During virtually every flight, certain sound files that I expect to hear do not play. Missing sounds occur randomly and may include my VCP, taxi instructions, any level of ATC, and AI chatter.

In this forum, these symptoms are usually attributed to a bad installation, and the solution offered is to follow the procedure described in the post, "How to rectify a suspected bad installation" (it refers to a file named "Xinstall3.exe" which does not exist in my computer) and to update using the Accumulative Updater.

I think I've read every post on this forum related to missing sound files and applied the suggested remedies, but the problem persists. I have reinstalled 6 or 7 times, at least 3 times after completely uninstalling PFE and starting from a clean slate.

I've emailed the debug log files from the first two flights immediately after my last complete uninstall and reinstall. Here are the details of my last install:

Windows 7, 64 bit, FS9, UAC off, anti-virus disabled, FSUIPC V 3.980A. Installation was done in safe mode. All install executable files were run with administrator privileges in XP compatibility mode. Immediately after the install I applied the Accumulative Updater in command line mode. I recently found a thread entitled, "Clerance sound problem," in which you provided additional command line steps, which I followed. I ran Makerunways.exe after first deleting the csv files, then rebuilt the PFE database.

I've tried disabling add ons such as 3rd party aircraft, scenery and weather programs. I've redownloaded and reinstalled FSUIPC. I've followed the guidelines offered here on designing a proper flight plan, and I've tested using plans from the North American Sightseeing Tour. None of these steps have made any difference. My computer was purchased in May of this year and Windows has the latest updates.

Sometimes after a flight, I try to close down PFE and receive a popup saying, "Error reading hotkey hit locations," but I have never modified the hotkey configuration.

PFE is such a great improvement over the default ATC, it's hard to contemplate going back. Any ideas on how to correct these problems?

Hi,

Thanks for sending the log files which do indeed show you have some missing files.

I really have no idea as to why some users have installation issues whereas the majority do not. If you've turn everything off (UAC, virus checker, etc, etc) during the installation and you're still having issues then to be quite honest I'm stumped.

When you ran the install in command line mode did it run without errors?

Thanks for your attention and prompt reply.

The command line install went without error. In fact, I made a batch file of the commands and ran tests to make sure.

Okay, for the sake of my sanity can you check the following files... these should appear in each of the 'ProFlight' folders that have files in them.

PFChat401H

PFChat406G

I know they are missing from your ProFlightW folder but need to know if they are missing from all the ProFlight folders.... my guess is they are.

Pfchat401H.wav was found in the PfeFlightE folder and the PfeFlightK folder.

Pfchat406G.wav was found in the PfeFlightY folder.

Hope this helps.

That's even more bizarre to have some of the files installed as they are all included on the same update.
Ate you running any other security your software that might be causing a problem?

During installation in safe mode only the bare bones Windows services are running.

When running FS and PFE I use Gamebooster to shut down unnecessary processes. However, when I checked taskmanager just now, I noticed that avg9wd (AVG Free WatchDog) is listed as running, even after running Gamebooster. Watchdog is the core component of AVG's resident scanning module.

As an experiment, I will completely uninstall AVG tomorrow, then uninstall and reinstall PFE and see what happens.

Well it will certainly be interesting to hear back from you as I've used avg for years and still do on all my machines, not the free version though

Well, it seems AVG was not the problem.

I went through the full uninstall/reinstall of PFE after removing AVG, and the flight was riddled with errors.

However, after shutting down PFE and FS, I got a popup in my taskbar from Windows Defender, urgently asking to scan my system. I didn't even realize Windows Defender was activated on my computer. After running the scan I deactivated Defender and uninstalled/reinstalled PFE in safe mode and tried again. After a test flight the log showed only one error.

I won't jump to conclusions because these saysentence errors seem to be quite random. I've had flights that were error free, followed by flights that were loaded with errors.

Dave, thanks so much for your response and effort. I'll continue to tinker with this. If I stumble on a solution I'll be sure to post it here so others may benefit.
