This was supposed to be a FIR flight but I got no directions to the runway and the only contact with a controller was an instruction to reduce my altitude to 3000' which I did even though I was scheduled to fly at 5000'.##From then I got nothing. Not even an landing instructions to Palm Beach Intl which is not exactly a small airport.

Can you tell me what went arong please? Log attached.

John

You departed from an untowered airport, so you need to make contact with Departure (tune the frequency and press 0) once airborne. In this case the Departure frequency was given as part of your clearance. (If it is not, you can obtain it using the PF3 Display Utility.)

Thanks Dan. I checked it out by programming in the last flight and what you've told me works well. Now, the only problem is knowing beforehand if the departure airport is untowered!

Shouldn't my co-pilot have known this and dealt with it while we were on the ground? I have her on CPmode2.

Does this mean the 'must tune to ATIS' instruction? I didn't have it marked, so now I have but I would rather have it confirmed before the next time I come across another non towered airport.

Thanks.

No, that's something else. That will prompt you to tune to ATIS to check the weather.

You can run the pf3_display.exe program which is located in the PF3\PF3_Displayer folder. After you have connected PF3 at the start of your flight, click on Dept Freqs at lower right and as you hold the mouse button down, the frequencies for the departure airport will be shown.

No - Couldn't find 'Dept Freqs' at all.

Never mind. Its not often I find myself in an uncontrolled airport and I'll try to avoid them in future.#

Dan,

I think we have to close this. It's too complicated for my 85 year old brain which was never that good to start with!

I know you mean well but the post you just sent means absolutely nothing to me.

Thanks for trying to help but don't bother any more.

John
