Hello everyone,

I am hearing absolutely no sound from PF3, no matter what I try. I know my sound is not muted, my battery master switch and avionics are on in the aircraft, I'm tuned to the proper frequencies, and PF3 is connected to the simulator. I am using FSX-SE on Windows 10 X64, ActiveSky 2016, FS Realtime, and PF3. Both PF3 and FSX are set to run as administrator. I am visually impaired, and thus use a screen-reading program to access the computer. Attached is a copy of my pf3.ini file. Additionally, I get no errors whatsoever, just no sound when I tune to ATIS or any other frequency. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Looking at your log and it looks like a bad install as it's not reading your wav files.
Dave M should be able to give a solution whether to reinstall... or run another program that's included with PF3 to see if that cures it.

How do I read and understand those log files? I am an IT person, so I often try to read logs to see if I can figure out what they contain that might be helpful in solving a problem. However, when I open PF3 logs in Notepad, all I get is what appears to be gibberish.

The problem is due to you having some missing DirectX files
Quote:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound
If you go to the first item on our website FAQ you can download the MS files to install which will fix this issue

As for the logs, they encrypted and are for support personnel use only

@DMarch, thanks; your solution worked. Now, if only I could figure out how to dismiss the kneeboard that pops up when you connect to the flight simulator...that would be helpful. Don't know of a way to kill it from the keyboard.

Not sure about other versions of FS, but in FS2004 you can press the F10 key several times to cycle through the different pages and finally close it.

If you prefer, you can set it so it does not open on connection (Options #2 screen, Advanced Options, set Display COMs value to zero).

If the Display COMs option was set to 0, would that also suppress the generation of the pf3_freqs.dat file found in %FSXPATH%\PF3_Display? I ask because I rely on the frequencies found in that file to determine what to dial into COM1 for ATIS and clearance delivery or ground.

No, that file will remain

Hi again everyone,

I've installed the missing DirectX components, and have had successful flights with PF3. But tonight, I was flying, and all of a sudden lost all PF3 sound in the middle of my flight. Disconnecting from FS and reconnecting didn't resolve the issue, nor did switching back and forth among frequencies. I tried hitting 0 to check in with the controller, to no avail. The logs are attached.
