During my last VFR flight Center changed my VFR flight to an IFR flight (because the sight wasn't really good). To change from VFR to IFR I have done the following steps:

1. Tune in FSS (122.20)
2. Press the key #6 -> VFR changed to IFR
3. Tune in Center again

Is this the right sequence and is it "by design" that only FSS can change the flight rules?

Regards
Wolfgang

BTW: It' s funny to press key #4 after step 2 :)

You will be changed from VFR to IFR is you climb above the permitted altitude for VFR

Will check this tomorrow. But as far as I can remember, the altitude of the filed flight plan (ENKB to ENSD) was 3500 ft, which was a little bit too low for that area, and ATC instructs me to climb to a higher altitude 4500 ft. So this should be the new permitted altitude. But as said, I'll check this tomorrow (oh no, today) again.

The other question was about sequence to switch from VFR to IFR. Is it as it should be?

Cheers
Wolfgang
