Hi Thomas

I flew IFR 350nm + This afternoon using the default ATC and got on to approach and it crashed, so unless FSUIPC affects that as well it seems the fault is not with PF3 as we've been thinking .

I've tried to download and install Air Traffic Manager which in FSX days was a really useful tool to reduce traffic.

However, I've never managed to get it to work since I went to P3D although it says it is P3D ready.

So what I've done is as I usually have Air Traffic in the sim' limited to 50 on the bar, I've now reduced it to 40 ie by 20%.

We'll see if that works, although these aren't OOM's, they are plain and simple computer crashes.

This is all so frustrating that its almost time for me to seek out a new hobby where everything works without all these complications. :(

I never thought that this was a PF3 problem, just a problem in P3D or your system/drivers/etc. triggered by certain usage patterns (like the combination of PF3, the aircraft, etc.)
It may be worth reporting the crashes in P3D to LM, because it is still in active development.

Regarding AI: I'm using Ultimate Traffic 2 for that, which brings some simpler aircraft models for AI aircraft that do not stress the system so much, and it has (in addition to a percentage limit) an option to limit the maximum number of aircraft.

Thanks Thomas.

At least we've proved its a general problem and not PF3. Strangely, I think if I limited my flights to under say, 250nm, I probably wouldn't get the crashes, so it's probably something accumulative but I don't know enough about computers to guess what that is.

It's no good asking anything on the LM forum really. I've never had a sensible response from them to anything. Orbx are no longer allowing discussions about anything but their products so that's another source of general support that's dried up.

I'll eventually sort it out I expect. I may even go back to P3Dv3.3 and try that, the only trouble being I'm not sure how many of the products I've got installed are backward compatible. Most of them I think. AS might not be and a couple of others I can think of.

We'll see.

John

Maybe you can find something helpful in the AVSIM Crash to Desktop Guide for FSX, FSX-SE and P3D V3.0.0 or the AVSIM Prepar3D Guide 1.0.0.
The former helped me adjusting Windows 7 in a way that Burnout Paradise no longer crashes after some time :)

I will never in my life understand the lack of logic with computers that are supposed to be made and programmed by intelligent people to be operated by idiots like me!

After all this trouble, having done exactly as I always do, I've just successfully completed an approximately 150nm IFR flight from KEUG Eugene to KLMT Klamath Falls in the Stationair which took a long time (2 + hours) and which I thoroughly enjoyed.

So, my young lady co-pilot hasn't lost her job after all. ;)

Now I'm hoping that this thing will learn from this and work properly from now on.

But.....I'm not holding my breath.
