Power surges on approach

A power surge is not good news at any time but on finals and short finals its panic time.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

I think this only happens in VCP mode 3, and only with aircraft that either have no SPD AP mode, or having it implemented independently from the default FS9/FSX/P3D AP.

I'd rather have a power surge on finals than have the engines go to idle. Which is far more dangerous!

It happened to me yesterday using VCP mode 2.

I couldn't really understand what you said Thomas. Or voliberista for that matter. I was flying the EMB505 Carenado Phenom 300 if that helps.

I haven't had it happen and I don't see how it could be caused by PF3. If you were using VCP Mode 2, PF3 was only handling comms and YOU were controlling the aircraft. Either you were applying throttle or your autothrottle was doing it. I can't see how it could have anything to do with PF3.

If you or your VCP mode 3 points the nose of the aircraft down to reach the altitudes requested by ATC, the aircraft speeds up, unless you reduce power.
Some autopilot systems have a SPD (speed) mode where you can select a desired airspeed and the autothrottle will reduce power for you.
I assume your aircraft has, but you have to actively enable yourself it to use it.

Actually, that gives me a clue Thomas. Thanks. I quite often click 'csc' on my aircraft that have it in a usually vain attempt for it to retain the speed setting, or at least, the speed I'm flying on presently.

It never seems to work, so I forget about it and use my throttle control but supposing the damn thing is trying to work when I'm trying to slow down. That would cause a conflict, hence possibly power surges trying to get it back up to speed again.

I'll certainly leave it well alone in future and perhaps prevent it happening again.....hopefully.
