I recently installed PF3 to use with MSFS. PF3 and MSFS are both running the latest updates. When I load a flight plan and click on the Connect button, PF3 crashes immediately. It doesn't matter whether the flight plan was generated by FS or Simbrief, the result is always the same. FSUIPC7 v7.2.8 is installed and loads when Flight Simulator is started. No problems have been found with other addons that use FSUIPC. I have changed the admin language setting from US to UK English and have installed the DirectX for Managed Code runtimes as suggested. Skins are disabled. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled PF3 but the problem persists.

One other thing that I notice is that I am unable to rebuild the database. Make Runways was downloaded and run from its install folder. The runways.csv file is generated. While I am able to select it, I get the "Cannot find FS9 or FSX installation folder". Shouldn't it find the MSFS installation folder? (this is a standard store installation).

Other questions:
Does the database have to be rebuilt on initial installation or only when updates are applied?
Does a successful connection (which I have yet to see) load the flight plan into FS?
Am I correct in starting MSFS and PF3 in this order:
1. Start FS.
2. Select World Map, aircraft and starting airport (either at a gate or runway).
3. Click on Fly and start flight.
4. Once loaded, start PF3, select flight plan and connect.

Thanks
Alan Robinson

Have you tried the following?

There is a possible issue for those using non UK English Windows Regional Settings which can cause (a) PF3 to supposedly crash and/or (b) being unable to load a flight plan, resulting in an invalid string error in the FPP log.

Required change:

Open 'Windows Settings'

Select 'Time & Language'

Select 'Language' in the left column

Select 'Administrative language settings' from the right-hand column

From the popup display (under 'Language for non-Unicode programs') select 'Change System Locale' - then select 'English UK' for the 'Current System Locale'

Select 'OK' to confirm then exit Windows settings.

You 'may' have to restart Windows at this stage.

Please retry PF3 and let us know how you get on

Please also check the following:

From Control Panel select 'Clock and Region'

Then select 'Region'

Then click on the 'Administrative' tab

Now select 'Change System Locale...'

Unselect 'Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support' if selected

Then select 'English (United Kingdom) or English (United States)' from the drop down list

Finally click on OK

No change from before :x

The administrative locale was already set to English/UK (per earlier posts). I was a bit confiused by the second suggestion as I ended up setting the same parameter (were you thinking of Win 7? I am using Windows 10 here).

I have attached thestartup and debug-monitor files from the latest attempt.

Also looked at the Windows Event Viewer but couldn't find any errors there.

Are there any other logs that I should look at?
