Hi Dave

Happy Easter!

Could you have a quick look at the attached when you have time please. I'm trialling PF3 at the moment and have a couple of questions about a short flight I made between PAPH and PAII today.

Leaving the Uncontrolled airfield seemed to go OK. The runway was confirmed but I didn't get any initial altitude instructions. Is that normal? After take off I switched to Departure and everything went according to plan and I was eventually handed off to approach. When I reported the airfield in sight, I was advised that the radar service was terminated and to squawk 1200. OK, but I wasn't told which runway was in use etc so I tuned to the FSS frequency but there didn't appear to be any way of advising which runway I was landing on there either nor where I was in the scheme of things so I just landed and taxi'd off the runway.

Now this didn't seem to be how it should work but being a newbie it's probably a 'User Error' so could you have a quick look and see where I've gone wrong please?

Many thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

Had you been IFR you could have received clearance and an initial departure altitude from FSS. Being VFR from an uncontrolled airport there's no one to do as such. Same goes for your destination which was uncontrolled (no Tower) so again there's no there to assign runways.

Hi Dave

Sorry, another question on landing at uncontrolled airfields. Today, I flew an IFR flight to PAYA (Yakutut Alaska), another uncontrolled airfield and on approach, I was handed off to the FFS frequency which was fine but there doesn't appear to be any option to advise other aircraft of my landing intentions once I have been handed off from approach. I can report my position on that frequency but not advice landing intentions. Is that normal? I thought I might have had to announce my plans so any other aircraft using that airfield know what I'm doing.

I haven't attached a log as it's a general question rather than a specific issue with this flight.

Thanks

Mike

Use the PF Display utility to determine if there is a Unicom or Multicom frequency at your destination airport, which you use to announce your intentions. In an upcoming release a Unicom frequency will be added if the airport is uncontrolled and does not already have one.

Thanks Dan. It didn't have either of those frequencies available so it'll be good to see it added in the update.
