Post subject:  Creating your own PF3 sound files?

As I use X-Plane, the PF3 database is getting less and less up to date. This seemingly can't be fixed, unless someone produces an XP11 equivalent of FSUIPC that has all the functions of Pete Dowson's version. However...

One thing that is theoretically quite possible is to add new callsigns for airlines that have emerged since the PF3 sound files were created - at least some of these would be possible by cutting, copying and pasting existing sound files. However, I recall from some years back that the sound files created in that way are not readable by PF3. I do have some good sound file editing software and wonder if you could explain exactly what the criteria are that make a wav file readable and so usable in PF3. I could then give it a go...

Thanks.

Martin,
you have pretty much answered your own question....copy,cut and paste.
They are wav files so you should be able to do this, however it is all done at your own risk and no support can be given..
And don't forget to save as a Wav File so PF3 can read it,but you will have to save it under the same name as it is currently is within the PF3 wav folder, you won't be able to create a brand new wav file with a unique name.
This could be very time consuming but if you decide to go ahead, then make a backup of any changes prior to any changes being made...hope this helps you!

Tell me what you want to do and i'll try with my software and we can compare results.

Hi there. No, it's not as easy as that. I tried, probably two years ago now, and the files created will not work in PF3. Dave M confirmed this in a reply at the time - I can hunt down the thread perhaps, if needed, but I am sure Dave will confirm this.

If I had the exact criteria though, I might be able to get around it - I can't remember now exactly what Dave's explanation was. It might not even be possible (did the files have some sort of DRM perhaps??)...

WAV files must be recorded at 11025 Mhz, 8 bit mono :)

I'll give it a try and let you know (both Daves - Dave L, as per your post: yes. then we can compare results. Not quite sure yet what callsigns are both missing and missed, as it were: will check and let you know. Thanks.

Update: I had forgotten just how much work it would take to create a set of files! I started with 'Cairo Air' and created one nice example; but the number of different voice sets for which you need to do the same thing is daunting. Maybe I will just continue to choose 'None' when the airline name is missing

Yes that's why I wouldn't entertain making such changes. You have to edit two files for each voice set so that's 119 x 2 = 238 edits

You were just waiting for me to come back and post that kind of comment, weren't you Dave?! Thanks for not saying 'I told you so'..
