I imagened this to be similar to the guidance provided in the default P3D.

However, when selected, I've never seen any sign of it. Is it one of those things that has been dispensed with but never uninstalled?

If P3D's guidance is like FSX's, these are lines/arrows on the ground.
PF3 does not have those (as it has no code to render pixels in the flight sim world), but (apart from the HDG bug or voice guidance) offers the following two ways to get a visual guidance:
1. Via the TGS gauge: You need to edit your aircraft's panel.cfg as described in section 22 of the user manual. I'm not sure if this is compatible with P3D though.
2. Via the standalone TGS Display, as show in section 8.2. This is a separate program you need to start outside of P3D.

Ah, I see. Thanks Thomas. I don't think I'll bother. I just thought it might be useful on the odd occasion when there's a junction or various similar routes when taxiing to the runway.

It doesn't often happen but the other day I found myself going round in circles trying to find the right route to the runway from a choice of three!

Never mind. I suppose I could always cheat a bit and turn on the default for a quick look.

The follow-me car by GSX can not only guide you to the gate but also to the runway if you wish.

Thanks Ralph. I'll have a look.

I took a look at GSX Ralph and it was far too complicated for me. I liked the idea of the 'follow me' car but simply couldnt fathom out how to load the program let alone anything else.

And, I certainly wasn't prepared to risk my installation for that benefit, which frankly, would only be of use in the most complicated of airports to navigate.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

John, why not just use the heading bug in PFE, really simple and no installation... at least you will know roughly the direction you should be heading :D

I do that Dave, but forgive me for saying so, it's sometimes not that accurate. Or more likely I mis-interpret where it wants me to go!

As I said, sometimes you have an intersection of routes all going in an almost similar direction and its difficult to know which one is the correct one to take. The voice, isn't exactly reliable either. In these circumstances, I've often spent quite some time taxiing around trying to sort out exactly where where I need to go.

Actually, the airport designers don't do a lot to help. In most real airports the roadways are clearly marked but markings are few and far between with the simulated ones. That might probably be the reason the default ATC gives arrows to follow?

I don't want to blow this out of proportion. It only occurrs sometimes so it's not a major issue. Just occasionally irritating.

All the best.

Use the stand alone TGS gauge. Works every time and activates with one click. Doesn't get any easier than that.

That's done it. All I've got ticked now is the Use TGS and 'Use Hdg Bug'. Works a treat.

Thanks a lot.
