Couple of questions;

Lately, I've found myself landing and subsequently taking off in what I assume are non controlled airports e.g.KOSC Oscara Wurtsmith. I didn't know this was devoid of a tower at the time.

However, what I would like to know is that having got there and wanting later to take off again, I found it was quite impossible to contact any form of PF3 ATC, either on the ground or at any time during the subsequent flight to KBTV Burlington Intl.

Can someone please tell me what buttons I should have pressed please to get me out of this predicament?

Many thanks.

John

From the User Guide :)

20.3 Uncontrolled Airports

Should you find yourself departing from an uncontrolled airport, without Clearance, Tower or Ground control facilities you could be excused for asking 'how on earth do obtain IFR clearance in such a situation'?

New in PF3 version 3.2.0 we have introduced support for obtaining IFR clearance from FSS. Here's how it works...

First you need to tune to FSS and hit hotkey #0, this is your 'wake up' call to FSS... there could be a delay of up to 30 seconds so be patient, they're not ATC controllers. Once they put their coffee down they will ask you to 'go ahead' at which point, if you're using VCP mode 1, otherwise it will be automatic, you can either hit the 'Roger' hotkey or hotkey #0 again.

On doing so your VCP will provide the necessary details regarding your flight plan to FSS, after which they will clear you as filed, give you an initial altitude and also the frequency for Departure, which of course you should contact asap after takeoff. Obviously this new feature is only available when your are at your departure airport.

See this previous thread for an example how the procedure will look like.

Thanks Dave but would you believe I've never been able to get FSS. Can you or someone explain please how I can get it when the sim' is up and running?

Many thanks.

Default frequency for FSS is 122.2

Sometimes airports have their own FSS frequency set, you can find that in PF3 before connecting to the sim in the same dialog where you can change such frequencies (somewhere under "Advanced something and something"), and maybe at some other places.
But 122.2 may work in these cases, too.

At last. Thanks Thomas. I've been typing; 'FSS' and wondering why it doesn't work! :oops: :roll:
