Hi reecemj, No I don't mean that. And as Dave has intimated, you are never told to switch from QNH to standard on climb out, that is why each country have their own unique transition altitudes so if you're operating in their airspace, local ATC will always clear you to a level below their transition alt with a QNH when on descent. (mind you guys, I am no expert on this, it's what I've been told) I'm not sure if there is a bug in the software, it seems to be correct as far as I see, I just know it's a work around for me so I can carry on the flight with ATC coms. And not fly endlessly at your initial altitude wondering what's going on. So to recap, because it's frustrating when you read someone has a solution and they don't tell you how! I look what PF3 tells me the transition alt is for the country, and I pop that in my FMC/CDU If you are cleared above the transition alt, switch to standard as you would when reaching transition and climb to initial. This for me, always triggers ATC to continue my flight plan, which is followed a few seconds later by my next flight level step, and so on until reaching cruise, or initial cruise. If you are cleared below the transition alt, stay as you would in real life on QNH and you will get the same message to continue flight plan, and then cleared to the next flight level, and so on. Obviously, you will switch to standard on passing transition alt to your second flight level. i guess that's how it happens in real life, so to me, PF3 is operating correctly. The only time it hasn't worked, is when I haven't used the correct transition alt for the country I'm departing from, and I haven't switched to standard if it's above, or switched and I'm still below. Hope that helps Nigel |
