The Flight: SVMI to EDDF,
DCT TOROP UA550 PPR DCT BNJEE DCT 27N055W 34N050W 42N040W/M085F290 46N030W 48N020W 48N015W DCT OMOKO DCT GAPLI/N0501F290 UN20 SAM UM140 DVR UL9 KONAN UL607 SPI UT180 PESOV DCT

FLT does not traverse Gander/Shanwick (I think not Shanwick), yet Oceanic button was greyed-out so I could not select BNJEE & OMOKO as entry/exit points.

FLT by Simbrief (cycle 1603); P3d4v2; PMDG747; PF3 on networked pc.

Thanks,
Walter

Below is the FP from BNJEE to OMOKO. I'm guessing that NY radio & Santa Maria radio are not included in PF3 and the only time I would hear my secals/POS reports would be when I am in Gander/Shanwick FIRs. I haven't reached the Gander part yet so we will see.

So... the fact that Gander & Shanwick FIRs were in the FP means that the "Define Oceanic Airspace" button would, in fact, be greyed-out.

Seems like FIR boundries are pretty close... I probably could have done better on the FP.

Would like to see more oceanic FIRs in PF3.

With flight planning programmes there is always the assumption that they are correct and therefore the fpl is placed straight away into the aircraft's navigation equipment by the simmer without further ado. "All" the fpl programmes for sims both payware and freeware use similar algorithms that are not used in real life. In fact real life flightplanning involves a check and doublecheck procedure that the various wypts are correct both for the route and the flight itself. Any route put up by software is regarded only as a suggestion. Simmers should also take-on this mentallity.

First check the fpl against Skyvector to ensure that the basic route is correct. Also this will show strange dog legs that would be avoided in real life as they take up time and fuel. These dog legs occur because the fpl software for sims always tries to match a fpl against airways. When this occurs just change one or two of the wypts so that you fly "direct" in effect without having to "divert" along airways just for the sake of it. Next check your departure and arrival plates for height and speed restrictions. Put the height restrictions into your PF3 fpl. The speed is managed either by yourself and/or by PF3 where you have entered an "app speed" into an aircraft preset. Remember that the the "app speed" is the penultimate speed before your Vat. If you are flying a jet transport other than Concorde you should enter 160 IAS. If you are Concorde enter 190 IAS. If you are a "heavy" and landing at close to or at max auw then enter 170 IAS.

I'd need to see the actual flight plan file before commenting... please attach to your post
