Hi Dave,

Still a bit worried about the last minute ILS instructions to be honest...

This time, I was approaching Rwy04 at ZHHH: the runway heading is 45 degrees. I am flying, as instructed, at 110 degrees, approaching from the south-west. At less than 5 miles from the ILS intercept, ATC instructed me to turn right (i.e. the 'wrong' way!) to 130 degrees, so I did, for fear of causing ATC to go dead on me, as you indicated it would if you don't follow their instructions. Then shortly afterwards followed the instruction to turn to 75 degrees, and then very soon after that, I got ILS clearance.

Complying with a turn in the 'wrong direction' like that so close to the ILS intercept means that the aircraft then kind of 'sine waves' to the runway heading thereafter, as it overshoots the ILS path and then doubles back on itself and gradually tries to establish itself onto the localiser track. I would say I shouldn't be getting an instruction to turn right so close late in the approach, when I in fact need to turn left by 65 degrees to be on the exact ILS heading...

Logs uploaded (still on level 2 BTW).

Must be hard people asking for perfection when PF3 is already so good! But you seem to be a bit of a perfectionist too Dave, so I guess it's OK! :)

Thanks,

Martin
