Well I had a go at snipping some sound with some success. I see in the WAV folder the files are prefixed with a letter, for example STDW, I am assuming that means it's US Westcoast, and STDE would be English? What I'm trying to do use work out the voice files I'm most likely to hear for Europe and edit those first.

I also tried, well I did record my own voice saying "Skyways" which tested fine outside of PF3. But when I added it to file in PF3, it was recognised but it was just static white noise, is there some sort of block on adding your own sounds? Or is it likely I screwed up something in Audacity?

Sorry to ask so many questions :)
Rob

Hi Rob,

Firstly you won't be able to add a new voice file, only change them.

Next, the recorded file format should be 11000 Hz, 8 bit mono, otherwise you may have some problems during playback.

Yes you are correct in that Folder W contains US accents and folder E are British... here's the complete list

Folder(1) A - African - Voices: 6
Folder(2) B - Arabian - Voices: 2
Folder(3) C - Asian - Voices: 7
Folder(4) D - Australian - Voices: 5
Folder(5) E - British - Voices: 25
Folder(6) F - Canadian - Voices: 3
Folder(7) G - Caribbean - Voices: 1
Folder(8) H - Dutch - Voices: 4
Folder(9) I - French - Voices: 2
Folder(10) J - French Canadian - Voices: 0
Folder(11) K - German - Voices: 5
Folder(12) L - Greek - Voices: 1
Folder(13) M - Hindi - Voices: 6
Folder(14) N - Hungarian - Voices: 1
Folder(15) O - Indonesian - Voices: 0
Folder(16) P - Irish - Voices: 2
Folder(17) Q - Italian - Voices: 3
Folder(18) R - Latin American - Voices: 2
Folder(19) S - Nordic - Voices: 0
Folder(20) T - Portuguese - Voices: 0
Folder(21) U - Russian - Voices: 0
Folder(22) V - Spanish - Voices: 1
Folder(23) W - US Generic - Voices: 26
Folder(24) X - US MidWestern - Voices: 4
Folder(25) Y - US Northern - Voices: 7
Folder(26) Z - US Southern - Voices: 5

Thank you Dave.

I guessed there was a restriction of some form for adding voices, thank you for the list of voice packs I'll start editing them as soon :)

Many thanks
Rob

Well I have been banging my head against the wall with this, I know find out that the current version of Audacity doesn't allow tracks of 8 bit, its minimum sample rate is 16 bit.

What I thought was going to be easy is turning in to a right pain in the back end!!

Hi Rob,

I'm not specifically recommending any particular software but in general, if you are looking for older versions of programs, you can check out the sites oldversion.com and oldapps.com. You will need to do some investigating to determine which version numbers of the program will do what you want to do, or are compatible with your operating system. Also, if you do choose to do some file editing, be sure to back up the files just in case.

It converts 8 bit files to 16 bit when loading, but you can export them to 8 bit again from within audacity.
Use Export -> Other uncompressed files -> Options -> WAV (Microsoft) and Unsigned 8 bit PCM.

Just tried it with Audacity 2.0.6 and verified with "file":
$ file *
dest.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 8 bit, mono 11025 Hz
orig.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 8 bit, mono 11025 Hz

Thanks Chaps,

Thanks ThomasAH, I have had a go at your method. I managed to export it as a 8bit file, but now I don't get any voice from that selected airline now :(

Anyway it seem to much agro just to add my VA to the list of airlines, so I'll wave the white flag and give up! lol

Thanks for all the assistance though :)

Regards Rob

Then just use Sky Eyes, change the text, but not the wave files ... Maybe you will hear Skyways after some time if you always see it with the changed text :)
