Hi,

I bought FDC on CD-ROM last month and have just got around to installing it. That went fine, so I went to the update page. downloaded and ran the latest file and now have FDC shown as version 3.14.0.

However after the FDC update installs, another installation starts, and then I get an error window "gacutil.exe - System error" - "The program can't start beacuse MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I am not sure what program it is referring to - FDC? gacutil? Reinstalling the FDC update just gives the same error message.

Whatever, the file MSVCR71.dll is on my PC, in the folder "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322". (This is in Windows 7 64-bit).

Is this an issue I need to resolve for FDC to work? Thanks,

Martin

Hi. Then the installer is in error. I'd already checked that here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326922

Note: "For Msvcr70.dll or for Msvcr71.dll, you should install the CRT DLL into your application program files directory. You should not install these files into the Windows system directories"

I assume that the "application program files directory" is the directory containing the .NET framework.

Do I ignore the error? If so, what would that disable (I assume the installation must be there for reason)?

Thanks Dave,

Martin

I would not think it was wise to ignore the error. What I would do is instal a copy of the file into your system folder. The installer is rightly or wrongly assumes the file exists there and which it does on earlier systems before ms changed things or those systems where another application has installed the runtime library.

I honestly can't remember if we use those runtimes, I don't think so, and it's probably only used by the installer.

I guess I can always delete the file when the installer has done its stuff! I'll post again if there are further problems. Thanks.

OK, copied the dll file to C:\Windows and no error message during the update this time. Then deleted the file. Hopefully all will run OK...
