Post subject:  Problem loading FDC to FSX-Steam

Hi Guys. I used FDC Version 1. for many years without hitch and with much enjoyment :)
Now with FSX and Steam installed and running well I recently tried to install the latest FDC to it.
The addon loads ok and I can see various FDC items on the file page of FSX such as :-
FDC.net.def , FDC.ini and 2 Exe files, FDC.exe and Flightdeck Companion.exe.
I also have an FDC shortcut on my desktop but this, and the other exe files only produce the following pop-up :-
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

D:\FSX SE\Steamapps\Common\FSX\Flightdeck_Companion.exe

Windows cannot access the specified device. path, or file. You may not have the approropriate
permissions to access the item.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do have full administrator rights and my permissions are in order.
I'm running Windows 10.
Having scrolled through probably all the posts on the site I'm now at a loss as to my next move.
Any assistance would be much appreciated :?

Hi,
I use FDC & PF3 without any issues in Steam.
FDC can be installed onto "C" Drive by creating it's own folder,it doesn't need to be installed directly into steam folder.
As I use PF3 it creates a folder called FS_Addons in which I install FDC into same folder and FDC finds FSX providing FSUIPC is also installed.
What version number is FDC? and it will tell you on main interface....mine is 3.14.0

Thanks. Yes, my FDC is the same issue as your own. Just bought it from aerosoft 2 days ago.
My Steam FSX is on the "D" disc so thats where I directed the downloader Wizard. Quite a few FDC files are showing there. including the 2 exe files. I think it also worth mentioning that during the original install I was asked continually to enter my fsuipi code, which is also up to date (Fsuipi4). I entered it several times before I gave up.
Why the problem in finding the correct path do you think ?
Maybe I should just uninstall and try again, although I feel we would still be getting the same story.
Yes, I do agree with you, and other sources, that FDC does run well on Steam. I wanted to be sure of that prior to purchase.
Your interest is much appreciated.
Michael

Uninstall and try again.
Suggest creating a folder either on "C" Drive or on same disc as Steam but separate from your Steam Install and reinstall.
It sounds like a totally messed up installation because you shouldn't have any files in Steam, hence all the issues you have.
Try the above and let me know how you get on.

OK, so my original file was activated from my desktop. This time I tried from within "D" but not within fsx itself. I got the same message - "Windows cannot access the specified device. path etc."
So I opened FDC within a new file on my "C" disk and set the path to "D" . All seemed to go well until the end of the download when I got the same message as before - "Your current version of fsuipi is later ! " It has not been overwritten" . I clicked "OK" for that and got the message headed "fsuipi installer for FSX and ESP" , followed by, "Problem ! My signature check fails on the installed fsuipi4.dll " "Please check that I am not listed as an "untrusted Publisher" in internet explorer/content-publishers"
I then had a request to enter my name and fsuipi product code, which I did as requested for 3 times, before the aerosoft wizard came up with the "End" click.
Actually this is all the same as my previous attempts to load but perhaps with a bit more detail for you to look at.
Many thanks

Was your AV turned off during install?
Can you post any screenshots of error messages and location of FDC,or we can get Dave M to do a remote access to see whats going on.
EDIT:Did you create a folder called FDC and install into that folder and not in C:/Program Files, all the files for FDC should be in one folder only and not scattered all over the place.

Post subject:  Re: Problem loading FDC to FSX-Steam

Yes, AV was off.
I originally created a folder marked FDC on the "C" disk itself, not within the Programmes files or x86.
From there, as you know, I installed in error direct into FSX. However, all those files were deleted during my recent uninstall.
Following your last advice I installed, from "C" , into a folder marked FDC on my "D" disc, but not into FSX itself.
Here is a numbered list of error messages etc. as they appeared during my install :-

(1)

Even though I'm not through the woods yet, I should have realized that the whole program would normally reside within the one folder.

1 thru 7 has absolutely nothing to do with FDC but it may well be an off-shoot from the Aerosoft installer if they are attempting to install an old (FS9) version of FSUIPC.

8 could be as a result of the previous errors (1-7)

Here's what I suggest.

Download and install the FDC cumulative updates package from this forum. It is still 3.14 but it will correct anything that went amiss during the main install.

Download and install the CORRECT version of FSUIPC for you setup

Post subject:  Re: Problem loading FDC to FSX-Steam

Hi Dave....... ok, so I think I have the appropriate fsuipi, it's fsuipi4 . Do I maybe have to go back to fsuipi3 and if so would my other addons still work ?
I downloaded and installed the complete update package and immediately I did this,lo and behold, up came FDC with all it's buttons ready to go.
However, I thought it best to close FDC down just to check whether it came up again from my desktop shortcut. Unfortunately it did not open up again, and despite my use of the folder exe I was unable to get it going again.
The error - (my number (8) continues to appear :-

D:\FDC\FDC.exe

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

So near, but yet so far

Regards,
Michael

No, you need a current version of FSUIPC4 for FSX. (FSUIPC4 is for FSX and P3Dv1-3, FSUIPC3 is for FS9, FSUIPC5 is for P3Dv4)

Using the newest applicable version from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html or https://forum.simflight.com/topic/80977 ... d-modules/ is good in 99.99% of all cases.
