As I fly, I get some unwanted transition altitude calls - sometimes as low as 4000'. For now I would be OK to have TA set for 18000', globally, (though I know that is not how it is really) - at least until I get the problem sorted anyway.

I run PFE and FDC together, though I guess it is not 100% sure that either programme is causing the various TA callouts. In FDC I have all TAs set to 18000 (in Options/Misc/Airports). In PF2000, I have tried entering '0' in the Flight Level Altitude box (as advised in a thread somewhere in these forums, to get local TAs) - but zero always defaults to 1000' as you exit the settings window (is that normal?) and also 18000. There's nothing I can find to adjust in PF2000 Emulator...

At the moment I am getting a Transition Altitude of 13000', ascending and descending. How do I change this? If it's not FDC or PFE, any suggestions where else I might look? I can't see that any other programme I run as I fly would, or could, set a TA. Only the PMDG 747-400 - but my TA is not set to FL130 in the CDU...

Maybe someone could just confirm anyway that I have the TA settings right in PFE/FDC.

Thanks,

Martin

As you mentioned, you enable regional transition altitudes by entering zero in the Flight Level Altitude box in PF2000. Mine is set at zero; not sure why yours doesn't seem to stay there. You can also set this at 18,000 to use that value globally. After changing the setting, click "OK" and then exit and re-start PF2000 to enable the new setting. (Note that you will need to re-compile your flight plans after changing the setting, as PF2000 uses the flight level value when compiling the adventure.)

I don't use FDC so can't help there; perhaps Dave L. has some suggestions.

Thanks. I don 't see that I can change anything else in PFE. No, I don't know why the '0' entry changes to 1000' when I click OK - you just see it a fraction of a second as the screen closes.

I will try a PMDG flight again tomorrow and retest the 747 CDU, but I did already check that a few days back.

Forgot to mention that if you are using regional TAs, and your flight level altitude was set at zero in PF2000 when you originally compiled the adventure, you can further adjust the TAs for individual regions by clicking the "Trans Alts" button at the bottom of the Options #1 page in PFE. This isn't necessary unless you want to adjust the TA for a specific region. (I do not change these values; I've left them at default.)

OK, thanks. I think my current issue was determined by the PMDG 747 FMS, but I'll bear this in mind.

I still have this annoyance, and I don't think it can be due to the a/c FMS settings. I hope someone can help me sort this out.

Today I was flying a PMDG 737NG in FS9. I always fly with FDC and PFE active. When I got to FL110, the FDC pilot's (or co-pilot's) voice says, 'Transition Altitude... 29.92...' but the in the PMDG cockpit, the indication that I need to go over to STD only starts flashing at 18,000', which is as it should be: TA is set at 18000 on the CDU PERF INIT page.

In FDC Options (Miscellaneous/Airports), the TA is set at 18,000 for large, medium and small...

So where could the TA call at FL110 (on this occasion at least; sometimes it's different) be coming from? I can't think where else to check - I think I am setting up my flights in PFE OK, as per above. (Would doing something wrong there account for the TA calls at lower altitudes??).

BTW, as I say, I am happy for FL180 to be the TA globally at the moment, so I am not trying to adjust for regional variations.

Thanks again,

Martin

1. What is your Flight Level Altitude set to in the "settings" section of PF2000 ? If you want 18,000 feet it should read 18,000.

2. Compile a new adventure after changing this setting, don't use a saved one.

3. The setting in the PMDG FMC will have no affect on how PFE ATC operates.

When you first connect PFE to FS, transition altitude info for your departure and destination airports will appear in the on-screen info box (momentarily). Confirm that these altitudes are both 18,000 when you connect (they should be if you have compiled the adventure with 18,000 as the Flight Level Altitude in PF2000.)

It sounds like this may be an FDC issue; you are getting the altitude call from FDC. I don't use FDC so can't help there.

Actually, I might be mistaken about that; the altitude info in the box might come from the regional settings in PFE.
