In document page 10, it appears as if we can have separate preset for each runway and a correct transition will be picked up depending on final runway assignment ( first possibility).
Is it possible to do that and if so how can we do it?

Best wishes

I'm afraid that is not possible. Remember PF3 Randomizer only runs before PF3 - and your flight - is started. As Roman put it, it is only a "pseudo-randomization" because everything is set before your flight, you just don't know it as long as you don't look at the SID/STAR page.

That being said,
  1. Generic presets usually work well, if not better (shorter, easy to understand, names).
  2. I don't say it's impossible to randomize also PF3's per-runway names in a future version... ;)
A generic solution for Dubai:

[ img ]

[OMDB12 DESDI STAR] [OMDB STAR]

Probability=95
;Percentage probability of a STAR clearance (as opposed to vectoring).

DefaultName=DESDI8A ST

Name1=DIR2BOVET DIR
Name2=DIR2BOVET DIR
Name3=DB427ALNET C2
Name4=DB427ALNET C2
Name5=DB427ALNET C2
Name6=DB426DB420 C1
Name7=TULOMREREK C3

The idea is to define the same amount of shortcuts for all the approaches, draw them on charts and use as a reference when flying (or just remember them).

Dear Roman
I totally agree with you and thats what i did in my preset which i posted to you. I created two presets one for runway 12L and another for runway30L/R but my problem is how do i know i am going to land on runway 12 or 30L/R before my flight? I understand DSDI will be STAR no matter which runway is in use. How can i load OMDB12 preset before flight and if i do i get runway 30L or 30R?

Best wishes
Ash

You know how to build up tension... :)

Hi all,

Greetings from the flight deck of a Jestar A320, at the moment en route from Sydney to Cairns. I use Ralf’s presets for this flight – [l SID] and [sm STAR]. It’s a very refreshing experience! I listened to the Clearance more carefully as usual and was even a bit nervous :) This feeling of uncertainty is really worth it!! We were instructed to fly runway heading and then vectored (a very realistic way). I now look forward to the arrival… ;)

Ash, when you use a Preset specific for RWY 12 and you get RWY 30, instructions will be wrong. At the moment, you have the two possibilities:
  1. Avoid a change of runway OR
  2. Use a Preset that is okay for all the runways, something like I recommended above (green names only).
That being said... I'm going to build up some tension again :) Last night, I successfully tested a 100% reliable way of setting PF3's runway-specific SIDs/STARs names. The problem is that I am very content with the current "static" system as I prefer getting variable, realistic and easy to understand instructions to hearing real-world names...

I'm also enjoying PF3 Randomizer 2 very much. Glad you like my presets.

I'm also not sure if I really would want to use the real world names. Not least because PF3 wouldn't say the real name but just spell it. So you wouldn't hear "Balad" but "bravo alpha lima alpha delta" - I prefer shorter names... And furthermore a true randomized selection of available real world STARs would often not really work because the STAR might actually already be defined by the last waypoint of your route. And just having PF3 say "bravo alpha lima alpha delta" instead of "Sierra" wouldn't be much of a benefit for me. And if you really want to have 100% realistic names you would have to check them with each AIRAC cycle.
And imagining you would do the same for each per-runway name what you did for the generic name - namely ten different possible names for each procedure - and then thinking of an airport like KATL with ten runways ... A lot of work to be done to set it up - and things might get confusing easily.

On the other hand this would open up infinite possibilities - for those who are willing to dig deep into it.

Regards
Ralf
