Installed the DirectX for Managed Code runtimes and that seems to have fixed it.

It also asked to update some .Net stuff, which I let it do, anyway everything seems fine now.

Re this post, I have the same error code and when I run the validation utility I get no errors. I am running FSX and PF3 over a network. You asked if there was a "control_mapping.dat" in the PF3 Data folder in the original post, and I do not have one. Hope this all makes sense and that you can help ...
