The auto cruise auto step climbs worked for me. That's like simulating the other pilot taking control while the "main" captain gets some rest.
Everything was good when I came back 2 hours prior to TOD

If that's the case, then mode 3 doesn't really help me.

But I just noticed that one can set step climbs automatic through the FMC

Hello PMDG 747 v3 Flight from Amsterdam to Shanghai included 2 step climbs along the route. From the initial cruise level of 350 to 370 and 390. Took off from Amsterdam and climbed to 350. Set VCP to mode 3 and went to bed. VNAV and LNAV armed. Came back to the computer 2 hours before TOD and the AT...

Can anyone suggest a free flight planning tool where its known that it works perfectly with PF3? What I usually do is when flying to Amsterdam is that I put the STAR in the flightplan with the Transition being the last waypoint (RIVER, ARTIP...)
That way I'm always far enough from the runway. Works on most of the airports in Europe
